adjooza's healthy steamer recipe

"adjoozas healthy steamer recipe"

for about 4 persons you need :

-two "bottes" (????) of "blettes" (?????), a vegetable that is very similar to spinach
-some red tasty tomatoes (2-5, like you want)
-a good handvoll rice
-two oignons (or more if too small)
-grounded meat, a good handfull, (or more or less, like you want)
-salt
-pepper and if you like little little bit of hot red pper powder (really not much), or if you you are sensible: grounded seed of coriander/cilantro

Wash and dry the blettes, cut them into pieces of maybe 1 cm, (little cubes), put in a very big bowl and mix with the grounded meat. Grate the oignons and the tomatoes (they must become liquid), put into the bowl too, add the washed and drained rice, salt and pepper (or corainder) and mix well with your hands.
Than, put this mixture in the top of the steamer (couscoussière) above the pot with boiling water (maybe half filled with water). make sure that vapeur (????) can't escape by the sides or the top (put a lid). Stir from time to time, so that everything cooks well, and be carefull to close again with a lid.
After about half an hour taste if the rice is enough cooked.

serve with oliveoil sprinkled over and greated cheese (gouda, emmenthal....)

i make this very often and everybody from young to old like this dish, alhamdulillah.
It is specially good if you are tired of heavy freyed meals....

bon appetit!

Please sisterAisha and sister Khadi, feel free to change what you want from what i have written, because my english is not so good, sorry. I don't have a dcitionnary to look for the terms i wrote in french...

As-Salaamu alaikum

JazakiAllahu khairan for the recipe dear sister Smile Maybe blettes is the same as the Libyan silig (Chard).
I am going to have a look in this online dictionary inshaAllah:

As-Salaamu alaikum

blette: WordReference English-French Dictionary © 2009
blette nf beet
blette nf Swiss chard

So I think that you mean the leaves of the chard and not the beetroot if it resembles spinach. Smile Here the leaves are sold in bunches of four or five leaves - I wonder if ''bottes'' mean bunches? I think that 2 bunches would be very nice (approx 8-10 leaves) - though some may prefer to use less.

I would really like to try this recipe - maybe today if i can get the ingredients inshaAllah.

I am just wondering about the type of rice - we have the Egyptian round-grain rice which is used traditionally in Libya but nowadays there is also long-grained rice available. There is a nice brand from Spain called Herba which is usually very clean and fresh-tasting mashaAllah.
So which rice do you recommend?

salamu aleykum,

my post has dissapear....???
so once again: wa fiki baraka!!
You know dear sister Aisha, i was so much more excited than you! i just paniced at the idea that you could not like the result, hhh!
And ouuuuf! now i'm soo happy to hear that you and your family liked it, :alhamd05:
:inshabr01: i will ask the adjooza for the name of the recipe, it could be that it isn't arabic because she is "kabyle", that means berber, from the mountains.
i think this recipe can be varied with other vegetables.
The interesting thing is how it is cooked, i way that keeps a maximum of vitamins

salaam

I made this dish again today with a slight variation -
I added two courgettes - grated and some fresh chopped Coriander/Cilantro leaves. I also add a teaspoon of hararaat instead of the paprika and a little turmeric. Instead of Olive oil and cheese I stirred in a good spoon of margarine.
It was fantastic mashaAllah! Alhamdulilah. 8)

:barakbr01:
I shall move this topic to the healthy meals section inshaAllah.
